The Novi Police Department is pleased to announce the graduation of Sergeant Kristie Gruenwald from the 36th class of the School of Police Staff and Command Executive Leadership Program at Eastern Michigan University on Thursday, November 12.
Sergeant Gruenwald joined 33 law enforcement professionals representing 25 different communities from throughout Michigan in the nine-month program. “The SPSC program provides excellent leadership and problem-solving skills," said Sergeant Gruenwald. “I am very proud of my accomplishment and excited to apply new leadership skills throughout the organization.”
Sergeant Gruenwald also earned the research excellence award and finished second overall in academic achievements.
The School of Police Staff and Command Executive Leadership Program provides upper-level academic instruction in a total of five core, or mandatory blocks of instruction and utilizes over 30 additional optional blocks of instruction during each session. Major topics of study include Leadership Development, Planning and Decision Making, Human Resource Management, Administration of the Police Agency, and Critical Incidents and Homeland Security. The program has graduated over 2,000 students since its creation in 1985.

Sergeant Gruenwald began her career with the Novi Police Department in 2002 after leaving the Clawson Police Department where she was an officer for one year. During her time with the Novi Police Department, Sergeant Gruenwald has held numerous assignments, including serving as a Detective, DARE instructor, a leader in Crisis Intervention Instruction, and an accomplished Hostage Negotiator.
