DURABLE MEDICAL EQUIPMENT LOAN CLOSET
Items such as mobility aids including canes, walkers, wheelchairs, bathing aids, and commodes are available for older adults in need. Available items change constantly. It is important you call ahead to ensure we have the item(s) you need and to arrange for a contactless pick-up. Equipment donations are accepted based on need. Items must be clean, in very good condition and ready to be loaned. We CANNOT accept any equipment that is damaged, soiled, missing parts or in disrepair. For information, call 248.347.0414.
TRANSPORTATION SERVICES
Be independent and continue a healthy, active lifestyle. Curb-to-curb transportation service to medical appointments, shopping, work, and more is provided to residents 55+ or with a limiting disability. There is no charge for rides within the City of Novi and a $5 one-way fee outside the City of Novi within a 10-mile range. Reservations are required 24 hours in advance. HOME WATCH PROGRAM
Novi residents can come to the police department, call and speak to an officer or visit cityofnovi.org to request a Home Watch check while they are on vacation or otherwise gone for an extended period of time. Call 248.348.7100 to arrange a Home Watch check.
FILE OF LIFE PROGRAM
The File of Life program is an initiative that assists EMS personnel when they respond to an emergency. This program uses clear plastic, magnetized envelopes to store pertinent medical information in plain view on refrigerator doors. The magnetized holders contain a standard medical form on which a person records medical history, medications, etc. You can pick up a File of Life folder at any Novi Fire Station or Meadowbrook Commons. FIRE AND FALL PREVENTION PROGRAM
Slip and falls are the main source of injury for older people in the home. This program is designed to educate residents of hazards within their homes that could cause harm by leading to a fire or causing injury. Residents can request an in-home visit by the Novi Fire Department by calling 248.349.2162.
SMOKE DETECTOR INSTALLATION
Novi residents who are in need and cannot afford a new smoke or CO alarm or cannot install it on their own can contact the Novi Fire Department for free alarms and installation. To request an alarm, call 248.349.2162.
CRAIGSLIST SECURITY MEETING PLACE
Novi residents and business owners who buy and sell on Craigslist or other exchange sites may conduct their transactions in the parking lot or front lobby of the Novi Police Department, 45125 Ten Mile Road. The parking lot and front lobby are active throughout the day, monitored by staff and security cameras 24 hours a day, and are well-lit in the evening.
FREE GUN LOCKS
The Novi Police Department has free gun locks available to residents upon request. If you wish to receive a free gun lock, you may pick one up at the Novi Police Department front desk at any time, including after hours or on weekends. The department is located at 45125 Ten Mile Road.
DRUG TAKEBACK PROGRAM
Novi Police accept unwanted prescription medications 24 hours a day, seven days a week at the Novi Police Department, 45125 Ten Mile Road. By creating a secure place to dispose of prescription medications we will be able to reduce the amount of unused and/or expired prescription medications from accidentally or intentionally being consumed by children, sold on the street, or improperly disposed of in landfill or sewer systems which can negatively affect our environment. A person turning in prescription medications can remain anonymous if they choose.
FREE CPR CLASSES
The Novi Fire Department provides free CPR training for Novi residents on the first Wednesday of each month from 6:30-10pm at Fire Station #4. Pre-registration is required by calling 248.347.0400.
MEALS ON WHEELS
Novi residents are eligible for Meals on Wheels delivery if they are over 60+ and unable to leave their home or prepare meals. Meals are delivered to ensure contactless interaction. Contact Western Oakland Meals on Wheels at 810.632.2155 for more information and a review of criteria.
FOCUS: HOPE – FOOD FOR SENIORS PROGRAM
This program provides a free, monthly food supplement for those who are 60+ and live in Oakland, Wayne, Washtenaw, or Macomb counties. Income eligibility: One-person household $1,383 or less monthly and two-person household $1,868 or less monthly. Pre-registration required by calling 248.347.0414.
THE EMERGENCY FOOD ASSISTANCE PROGRAM – TEFAP
A quarterly food allotment for residents who are income eligible from the U.S. Department of Agriculture Emergency Food Assistance Program. Income eligibility: One-person household $2,147 or less monthly and two-person household $2,903 or less monthly. Service is offered as drive-thru. For more information, call 248.347.0414.
