Oakland County Animal Shelter and Pet Adoption Center Census team workers will be in Novi around July 29 going door-to-door to verify compliance with the Michigan State Dog Law of 1919 that requires all dogs to have a valid dog license.

This law was enacted to ensure all dogs have current rabies vaccinations. The census workers will be driving marked Oakland County vehicles and wearing shirts with proper identification.

Oakland County Animal Control offers an online dog license purchase program. Visit oakgov.com/petadoption, click the link “now get your pet license online” and follow the instructions.

Dog licenses can also be purchased in Novi through the mail or placed in the drop box outside of the Novi Civic Center. The City of Novi is no longer issuing dog licenses in person. To purchase a license through the mail, fill out the Dog License Request Form here, make check payable to the City of Novi, and send rabies certificate along with self-addressed, stamped envelope to:

City of Novi Treasurer’s Office
45175 Ten Mile Road
Novi, MI 48375

If this is your first time purchasing a license for your pet, make sure proof of spay/neuter is also present. Also remember to always include your current address and phone numbers so we can contact you if we find your pet.
