DeMaria Building Company, in collaboration with DTE Energy, the Wildlife Habitat Council, Bees in the D and the City of Novi, recently hosted students from the fourth grade class of Novi Woods Elementary School for an educational program on wildlife habitats and bee habitats.
As a construction manager, DeMaria understands the impact construction activities have on the environment and has taken steps to address those impacts. In 2013, DeMaria established an internal sustainability team and has since taken multiple steps to reduce waste, improve energy efficiency and improve our environmental stewardship.
Last spring, this effort was continued by the creation of a wildlife garden at its corporate headquarters in Novi with the goal of providing a natural habitat for the native mason bee. As part of our program at Novi Woods, the students brought handcrafted mason bee habitats to be hung in our garden. Each habitat was created by the fourth grade students and decorated with their own art work.
