Take part in the DEA National Takeback Day this Saturday, April 24 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. by dropping your unwanted prescription drugs off at the Novi Police Department.

In 2020, Novi Police took back 252 pounds of prescription drugs during Takeback Day. Since 2010, the department has taken back 2,489 pounds. It should also be noted that the Police Department, 45125 Ten Mile Road, is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week for the safe disposal of unwanted prescription drugs.

According to the 2019 National Survey on Drug Use and Health, 9.7 million people misused prescription pain relievers, 4.9 million people misused prescription stimulants, and 5.9 million people misused prescription tranquilizers or sedatives in 2019. The survey also showed that a majority of misused prescription drugs were obtained from family and friends, often from the home medicine cabinet.

The DEA’s Take Back Day events provide an opportunity for Americans to prevent drug addiction and overdose deaths.
