They’re back!!! Actually, they never really left, but these last few months – when your contact with the Novi Parks and Novi Public Library teams was limited to virtual interactions - sure felt like an eternity. While we aren’t in the clear just yet, it has been uplifting to start seeing our residents in person again…checking out books, enjoying summer camp and participating in our safe, socially distanced programs.
Novi Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services has been providing parks, trails, special events, programs, and more to residents since the department was formed in 1981. In all these years, they’ve never faced a bigger challenge than providing recreation services, programs and facilities than during this global pandemic. Novi’s parks and trails have remained open and have proven to be a source for reflection, fitness, fun and discovery.
Their value has been proven to be greater now more than ever.
The Novi Public Library has a history that dates back to 1960 and has earned a reputation for being the community’s gathering place. It was hard not welcoming children to story time, students to the Teen Space and residents of all ages to the variety of free programs that are offered. While library card holders were unable to check out books and items from the library building, the online services soared. Users took full advantage of the robust electronic offerings, checking out eBooks and audiobooks and staying engaged with the library staff.
Novi Parks and the Novi Public Library continue to monitor and take part in state and national association planning and learning sessions to stay on top of best practices for returning to programming. They have taken
a steady approach to reopening programs and services to ensure they are providing the safest protocols, including social distancing, hygiene, education and more. Their number one goal now and always, is making sure participants and staff are safe.
As we have learned over these past few months, change is inevitable. Because we are unsure of what guidelines will be in place, we ask for your patience and flexibility. The plan is to bring back programming in person, if guidelines allow, but limits and registration for all programs may become more common. Virtual
programming may also continue to be part of our new way of servicing the community.
The best way to stay connected with the Novi Parks
and the Novi Public Library
is on Facebook and through their respective websites, cityofnovi.org
It’s good to be back!
