The Novi Men’s Cross Country team was crowned the 6-1 MHSAA Regional Champion last Saturday after coming in first in the 16 team tournament event. This marks the second straight year that the Wildcats have brought home the first-place trophy.

Novi earned just 54 points, far outdistancing a tough Northville squad who came in second with 87. Livonia Stevenson took third with 133, while Catholic Central came in fourth with 134. The top 3 teams advance to the MHSAA State Finals next weekend; low score wins.

The ‘Cats were paced by junior all-stater Gabe Mudel who took second overall with an outstanding time of 15:54. Senior Scott Macpherson was next for Novi with a 6th place (16:02) overall finish. He was closely followed by senior John Landy (7th, 16:03).

Senior Aric Landy (19th, 16:28) and sophomore Trey Mullins (30th, 16:30) rounded out the scoring for Novi. Senior Chris Silva (27th, 16:45) and junior Nate Wood (33rd, 17:05) completed the varsity line-up.

“We ran great!” exclaimed head coach Robert Smith. “All seven runners ran with intensity and focus. Northville beat us just a week ago in the KLAA Conference meet. Our guys really stepped up their game today to beat them and to bring home the Regional Tournament title”.
