The Novi Men’s Cross Country Team claimed the KLAA Central Division Title Tuesday by defeating South Lyon East 25-30. Our Wildcats went 5-0 against divisional foes in the dual meet round robin format this season.

South Lyon East put up quite a fight during the 3.1 mile race held at Island Lake State Park. “We wanted to give our varsity athletes a bit of a rest today, but East made that impossible. Juniors Gabe Mudel and Nate Wood had to step in to assure our victory. Those two guys deserve a lot of credit for keeping an eye on the score” noted Coach Robert Smith. “Without Mudel and Wood we would have lost the meet”.

Mudel ended up as the overall medalist. He outkicked East’s Jack Marchand over the final 100 meters. Both athletes were awarded a time of 17:36.

Xander Cronin from East grabbed third place, but then Matt Whyte (17:42), Satvik Malapati (17:52), and Wood (17:57) came in 4th through 6th.

Matt Gamm (9th, 18:24) rounded out the scoring for Novi. Tim Truly (11th, 18:31) and Brett Mackay (13th, 18:38) were also credited with running as varsity.

“These seven guys had all they could handle with the upstarts from South Lyon. I am very proud of the way they responded to the challenge” concluded Coach Smith.

Malapati, Caleb Wood, Jake Ryba, Joe Tituskin, and Jonathan Wang all set a Career Personal-Best time.
