The Novi Men’s Cross Country Team took one step closer to being crowned the Divisional Champions Tuesday by defeating the South Lyon Lions with a score of 20-43. Our Wildcats remain undefeated in Conference action with one meet remaining.

Josh Chezick from South Lyon took first place overall with a time of 17:35, but Novi took the next 8 places.

Freshman Matt Whyte led the way for the Wildcats with an outstanding time of 17:36. “This was the 7th fastest time ever recorded by a freshman at Cass Benton” exclaimed Coach Robert Smith. “He knocked off Mark Avenius from the Freshman Top 10 list (1997, 17:48). Avenius went on to become one of our legendary athletes in our program”.

Right on his heels came Alex Schafer (3rd, 17:48). “Alex led most of the race today” noted Coach Smith. “He just ran out of gas at the end, but he ran a smart race and gave 100%”.

Tim Truly was the third man for Novi (4th, 18:07). He was closely followed by Matt Gamm (5th, 18:13), Dallas Foley (6th, 18:26), Brett Mackay (7th, 18:31), and Prateek Bhola (8th, 18:40)

“We put in a new varsity line-up today vs. South Lyon” explained Smith. “I am really proud of the way that these 7 guys stepped up to represent Novi.
