Novi Men’s Cross Country runs past Stevenson

On a beautiful early fall day last Tuesday the Novi Men’s Cross Country Team defeated the Spartans of Livonia Stevenson by a score of 17-43 at historic Cass Benton Park.

Novi’s Aric Landy won the meet with an impressive time of 16:49. “Aric has been our first man before, but this is the first time that he came in first overall in a meet” noted Coach Robert Smith. “He was under full control for the entire race”.

It was actually the acclaimed Novi pack that finished off the Spartans. “We took the first four places today” said Coach Smith. “Our strategy was to have our pack lead the whole way. Stevenson could not break into our group up front.”

Coming in 2-4 were John Landy (16:50), Gabe Mudel (16:55), and Scott Macpherson (17:03).

Trey Mullins (7th, 17:18) and Chris Silva (8th, 17:19) were next to cross the line for Novi. “We have quite a battle for our fifth slot” observed Smith. “Both guys are hungry. This internal competition will help both of these athletes. They both respond well to the challenge”.

Nate Wood rounded out the varsity by placing 10th with a time of 17:38.

Alex Schafer (12th) and Matt Whyte (14th) also broke the 18 minute barrier by running 17:44 and 17:52 respectively.
