Novi Men’s Cross Country sinks the competition at Anchor Bay Invitational

The Novi Men’s Cross Country Team bested the field at the 18 team Anchor Bay Invitational this past Friday garnering 40 points. Macomb Dakota was second with 86 points, while Lake Orion came in third with 116.

“The times were fast today” noted Coach Robert Smith. “Too fast. The course had to be a little short. We had 4 guys in the 15’s. We are not quite capable of that yet. In good conscience I cannot use these time for our records.”

John Landy led the way for Novi by taking 5th place overall with a time of 15:37. Aric Landy (6th place) was next with 15:44. Gabe Mudel (8th, 15:46) and Scott Macpherson (12th, 15:54) also finished strong.

Junior Nate Wood (19th, 16:09) had a great race, finishing just 32 seconds behind John Landy. “A one minute spread between numbers 1 and 5 is good. Thirty-two seconds is great! This may be his breakout race”.

Sophomore Trey Mullins (25th, 16:14) also had a great race, finishing just five seconds behind Wood. “It was like having two number 5 guys today” said Smith.

Novi’s seventh runner, Chris Silva (29th) clocked a 16:34. “We actually had all 7 runners within a minute of each other. That’s quite an accomplishment” commented Coach Smith. “All seven runners earned a medal”.

Novi’s JV squad dominated the field by taking the first 6 places en route to a perfect score of 15. Alex Schafer (16:56), Matt Whyte (17:02), Dallas Foley (17:06), Satvik Malapati (17:10), Scott Sawyer (17:15), and Nathan James (17:16) all contributed to the sweep. “If the JV guys were a separate squad, they would have placed in the top half of the varsity race” concluded Coach Smith.
