Novi Men's Cross Country off to a fast start

SOUTH LYON, MI - The Novi Men’s Cross Country Team opened their season with a convincing win at the South Lyon Invitational this past Saturday.

Novi scored just 19 points (low score wins) as they cruised past the competition in the 10 team field….taking places 1,3,4,5,6,7, and 8.

Novi was led by Senior Scott Macpherson (photo left), who took first place honors with a fast time of 16:34. “Scott was in a battle with a runner from Whitmore Lake for the entire race” noted Coach Robert Smith. “He stayed focused and then pulled away for the win with about 600 meters to go”.

Senior John Landy was second for our Wildcats and third overall with a fine time of 16:44. Right on his heals was his twin brother Aric. Aric ran a 16:46 which was a career PR for him. “It is highly unusual for a top athlete to set a career personal record in the first meet of the season” said Coach Smith. “He is really running well right now”.

Junior Gabe Mudel was 4th for Novi with a solid time of 17:18. “It was a good race for Gabe, but I know he will be even faster at our next meet. He is a returning all-stater”.

Sophomore Trey Mullins (17:27), Junior Nate Wood (17:31) and Senior Chris Silva (17:35) rounded out the top 7 for Novi. “All 7 of our varsity runners ran extremely well today” said Smith. “I had a feeling that they were ready to race. Mission accomplished”.

The Novi JV squad proved that they were ready as well. They scored just 18 points, taking places 1,2,3,5,7,8, and 9. The top 7 runners were: Tim Truly (18:22), Nathan James (18:22), Satvik Malapati (18:36), Prateek Bhola (18:45), Matt Gamm (18:49), Dallas Foley (19:07) and Ben Robbins (19:10).
