Novi Lacrosse scores in 6 seconds on way
to a 17-5 trouncing of the Hartland Eagles

May 6, 2008 by Lynda Favorite

Juniors Matt Mandeville and Paul Favorite go way back to the days at Novi Middle School where 2 seventh graders were learning what it meant to be teammates. It was there that fans first watched ‘P-Fav‘ win the face-off; make a fast pass to his attack ‘Mandy’ who would shoot for a quick goal.

This is how it looked in the first 6 seconds of the game on Monday night when the Wildcats had their first score on the way to a 17-5 win over the Hartland Eagles.

It is fitting that Novi Middle School Lacrosse Coach Chris Laney brought his entire team to Novi Stadium to cheer on the High School team. They were not disappointed. The Eagles were within one goal during the second quarter when it was 4-3, but the Wildcats ended the half with 5 more points to make the score 9-3.

Senior Craig Howell did not let the scorekeepers (or the Hartland Goalie) rest. He had an outstanding night with 10 points, 7 goals and 3 assists. Matt Mandeville had the first goal but didn’t stop there. He totaled 4 goals and 1 assist. Favorite had 2 goals, 2 assists and Tom Machisak had 1 goal, 2 assists. Others contributing to the total score include Sean Murphy, Erik Aepelbacher, Nathan Haynes, Andrew Donatto and Taylor Howell.

On the other end of the field was Novi’s ‘Great White Wall’ of defense… Eric Guttman, Jack Petroskey, and Andrew Donatto, with Senior Kyle Simone as the goaltender.

Novi is coached by Tom Stephanoff and Eric Hoffman. They hold a 10-1 record and are ranked 6th in the state on Laxpower.com. The Wildcats will travel to the Brighton ‘Doghouse’ on Thursday May 8 at 6:30pm. The next home match up will be on Saturday, May 10 at 1:00pm against the Ann Arbor Huron River Rats.
