  Five Wildcats qualify for National Junior Olympic Cross Country Championships

Five members of the Novi Men's Varsity Cross Country Team have qualified for the USATF National Junior Olympic Cross Country Championships to be held in Lawrence Kansas on Saturday December 8.

The quintet first ran at Cass Benton park in Northville on November 10 in the State (Association) meet. All advanced to the next level. On November 17 they traveled to Springfield Ohio to run in the Regional qualifier. The top 3 teams and the top 20 individuals in this race earned the right to advance to Nationals. All five Novi athletes qualified; individually, and as members of their teams.

From Left to right: Mike Blaszczyk and Alex Minghine ran on the Detroit Cheetah team which placed third in Ohio. Josh Lumley (center) qualified as an unattached individual. Geoffrey Giese and Dan Egner ran on The Edge Cross Country Team (which placed second in Springfield).

Lumley came in second in the Young Men division (ages 17 and 18) with a time of 16:19.

The other 4 athletes were all in the Intermediate Boys division. Blaszczyk came in 10th in Ohio with a 16:55. Giese was 12th with a 17:06, Egner was 15th with a 17:11, and Minghine was 16th in the field of 41 with a time of 17:15.
