NOVI, MI - The awards and accomplishments just keep on coming! Our Mayor Bob Gatt won’t rest on his laurels, when it comes to doing what’s best for the City of Novi. Under Mayor Gatt’s leadership, Novi residents continue to reap the benefits of living in one of the premier communities in the State of Michigan:

• Crime is down
• Tax rates are lower
• Business development is booming
• Residential growth is thriving

But there’s even more to this impressive story.

In 2016, the Novi Department of Public Services’ Water & Sewer Division completed and opened a 1.5 million gallon water storage facility located at 12 Mile and West Park Drive. Now operational, the $3.5-million facility has helped to reduce Novi’s water rates by allowing staff to fill the reservoir at night when water is least expensive, and then discharge water during the day during Novi’s peak hours. That’s a savings of more than $3 million dollars in water costs annually for Novi taxpayers.

But wait. There’s even more good news.

The City of Novi had a great 2016 on both the commercial and residential side of economic development, as business activity continued to soar under Mayor Gatt’s leadership. The data doesn’t lie. Last year, the City of Novi reviewed and approved 101 final site plans; issued 176 commercial building permits, valued at more than $92 million; and issued 744 residential permits, valued at more than $36 million. The results are phenomenal. Here are the number of businesses that opened or expanded last year:

• Stoneridge
• Harman Automotive
• Google • Delphinus
• The Container Store
• Nordstrom Rock
• American Girl • Novi Lakes
• Magna Automotive
• Primanti Brothers
• Chipotle
• Rally House
• X-Golf
• Escape Room
• AirTime Novi
• Burger 21

But it doesn’t end there.

In November, 2016: The City of Novi was, once again, recognized as a “5 Star” Community by iLabs at the University of Michigan-Dearborn’s Center for Innovation Research. The award identifies and recognizes cities for their work in fostering entrepreneurial growth and economic development.

In September, 2016: Money Magazine ranked the City of Novi as one of the Nation’s “Best Places to Live.”

In March, 2016: The Novi Police Department’s use of innovative analytics to help reduce traffic crashes was recognized by the Governor’s Traffic Safety Advisory Commission (GTSAC) during its annual awards luncheon on March 23 at the Kellogg Hotel and Conference Center in East Lansing.

In February, 2016: The City of Novi Parks, Recreation & Cultural Services Department was presented with a “Park Design” Award at the MParks (Michigan Recreation and Park Association) Conference and Trade Show

In 2015, Novi was voted one of the Top 10 (No. 6) cities and towns for families in the United States by Family Circle Magazine.

In 2015, Novi earned the “Voice of the People” Award for Excellence in Code Enforcement and Library Services by the National Research Center and International City County Management Association.

Now that’s a record of accomplishment that any Mayor would be proud to promote to residents all over the State of Michigan.

“It’s all about head work – and focusing on what’s best for the residents of the great City of Novi,” said Mayor Gatt. “Novi residents deserve the best, and I’m proud to be part of a leadership team that DELIVERS RESULTS.”

These types of results define Mayor Gatt’s credibility, stability and integrity – three characteristics which help make the City of Novi a premier destination for families and businesses in the State of Michigan.

Mayor Gatt is seeking re-election for a fourth, 2-year term as Novi’s Mayor in November. He has resoundingly won re-election to the City’s top post by overwhelming margins of 66% in 2015 and 86% in 2013.

Mayor Gatt was first elected Mayor in November, 2011 after eight years of distinguished service on the Novi City Council. He still is known by many residents as "Officer Bob."

Mayor Gatt is an expert in the law enforcement industry. He has an impeccable 40-year record of KEEPING CITIZENS SAFE. No other candidate offers this type of background and public-service experience. Mayor Gatt served a distinguished 27-year career in the Novi Police Department. He started the local Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E.) program in Novi Schools in 1988 when he served as a Police Detective. He also managed and operated the Crime Prevention Section within the department.
