City council approves new four-year agreement with Novi PD

NOVI, MI - Novi City Council on Monday approved a new four-year agreement with Novi PD's union. The agreement includes numerous changes from the prior agreement. The deal was approved in executive session after the regular meeting and wasn't on the agenda.

In summary:

Officers will get a 2% increase in the first and fourth year, and a 2.5% increase in years two and three.

Officers and the city will increase contributions to the retirement plan by 1% each.

The city will increase contributions to officer's retiree health care accounts by $150  per month. Officers will contribute $75 per month.

The tuition reimbursement program limit is increased to $3,500 annually.

Plain-clothes officers will get a $200 / year clothing allowance.

Field training officers will be paid one additional over-time hour per day when training new hires.

Detectives receive 6 hours additional pay for each week they are on call.

There are several other minor changes to the contract language. Overall it appears the union and city administration came to a quick and fair agreement that will keep things coordinal for many years.
