March 16, 2016

NOVI, MI - Sarah David, an eighth grade English Language Arts teacher was named “Teacher of the Year” for the Novi Community School District.

“Sarah David is a wonderful choice for the Novi Educational Foundation Suburban Collection Teacher of the Year,” said Dr. Steve Matthews, Superintendent of the Novi Community School District. “Ms. David is committed to her students and to creating a classroom that will engage her students in meaningful and purposeful work. Ms. David is passionate, lively, and energetic. She brings those same qualities to her classroom every day. It is a joy to watch as she builds confidence in her students and helps her students develop skills that will last them a lifetime. Ms. David makes a difference! I am grateful that she teaches for the Novi Community School District.”

Adding to this honor, The Suburban Collection awarded Ms. David a two year vehicle lease.

“We are delighted that Sarah David has been selected as the Teacher of the Year for the Novi Community School District,” said David T. Fischer, Jr., General Manager of The Suburban Collection. “It is our pleasure again to work with the district and the Novi Educational Foundation and reward her dedication and many talents.”

The Novi Educational Foundation with the support of The Suburban Collection has been awarding excellent teachers for 13 years. The Novi Community School District nominates three teachers; one each at the elementary, middle and high school level. This year’s other two nominated teachers were Megan Taylor a special education teacher from Novi High School and Barb Zimmerman a kindergarten teacher at Orchard Hills Elementary School.

The Executive Board of the Novi Educational Foundation completes a second review of the nominee’s applications, solicits additional feedback from parents, students and the community, and then makes the difficult decision of selecting the winner.

“Novi Community School District is filled with so many wonderful, enthusiastic teachers. Selecting just one of these teachers for the Suburban Collection/Novi Educational Foundation Teacher of the year is very challenging. This award allows us to bring recognition to the high caliber of teaching professionals within Novi Community School District and the leadership they demonstrate each day in the classroom.”said Thomas Smith, NEF Chairperson.

In addition to Novi, The Suburban Collection this year is awarding vehicle leases to “Teachers of the Year” in eight additional communities in Southeastern Michigan where they do business. These school systems include: Birmingham, Clarkston, Clinton, Farmington Hills, Ferndale, Utica Community Schools, Troy and Waterford, as well as honoring the "Educator of the Year" at Cranbrook Schools.
