Novi Schools identify
and isolate 12 cases of recalled beef product
February 22, 2008 Source: Novi
Community Schools
Novi Schools was informed of a beef recall by the Michigan
Department of Education on Monday, Feb. 18th concerning several
commodity products offered to school districts across Michigan. Novi
Schools began mid-winter break on the same day.
Although no illness/health incident has been reported following
consumption of the recalled beef, there is the possibility of
contamination during the processing of certain beef items. The Novi
Community School district, along with all other districts, was asked
to withdraw this product from inventory.
Novi Schools Food Service Director, Mrs. Joann Clements identified
12 cases of the recalled beef products, and immediately isolated and
labeled those products for disposal. All Novi school food service
sites have been inspected and made aware of the situation.
In addition, all beef patty items have been removed from Novi's
lunch menus and officials state the items will not be reinstated
until they are assured that Novi's students will be offered a safe
product.
Parents with any questions or concerns are asked to contact Joann
Clements at 248.449.1225.
