The People's Editorials Novi Schools
1/23/2008 What a great idea! Viewers can watch previous meetings, and they can also watch meetings live on the school's website. It's also possible to jump around in the meeting, so that viewers can watch just part of the meeting if desired. The City of Novi did a similar thing last year, and it's been a great success. Novi's school website is already one of the best in the region, and provides a wealth of information. Continued improvements such as this go a long way toward ensuring the community is involved in our schools, and that's definitely a good thing.
Providing access to city and school meetings on-line allows
residents to watch when it's convenient, eliminates the need to have
local cable and be tied down to the TV to watch an entire meeting,
and allows everyone to see what's happening in the community. Not many communities work so hard to include their residents. Novi does, and the end result can only make the city an even better place to live and work. We the People are pleased with our school's continued innovations and openness. Everyone should have the opportunity to watch the school board in action. This new technology makes it possible, and convenient at the same time.
Kudos to Superintendent Peter Dion, the school board, and all those
involved in making this happen. p.s. - Kudos also to those promoting Unity in the Community - the second annual program on Martin Luther King Jr. Day at Novi High School. Novi has become a diverse community, and this program re-enforces the positive benefits of that diversity. The
