Bravo -
What a Rally

10/18/07

An estimated 600 Northville and Novi kids attended a tailgate party and football rally Wednesday evening at Novi's Oak Pointe Church, an event that featured Detroit Lions Quarterback Jon Kitna giving a moving 24 minute sermon to the kids.

This event was impressive for several reasons.

The Battle for the Baseline Jug, Novi vs. Northville in one of the area's biggest rivalries, takes place tomorrow. Yet both teams and kids from both schools showed up at the pep rally. Now that's sportsmanship. We'd bet that there are few if any rival schools who hold pep rallies - together.

It was impressive that so many kids did attend. Wildcat and Mustang team spirit has always impressed us, and this is yet another example of the outstanding student-athletes we have in our area schools.

We're impressed with all of those who organized this event and pulled it off without a hitch. This was clearly a gathering that was a win-win for everyone involved.

We're also impressed that there we no naysayers around this town telling the kids they could not attend a rally at a church. We'd bet there are many overly-politically-correct places in the country today where such an event could not take place.

We the People are pleased the Kitna took the time to do this, that those who organized the event pulled it off so well, and that so many Novi and Northville kids attended.

Thanks to all involved, and good luck to both teams Friday on the gridiron.

p.s. - Kudos to Novi's Nancy Cassis for continuing to battle against what many have termed nonsensical new state taxes. Her bipartisan efforts are refreshing given the current cesspool of ideas coming out of Lansing.
