High Expectations

6/21/07

With one candidate for Novi Mayor and three candidates for Novi City Council, and exactly that many seats open this year, the November election is already over. We know who's going to win, and who our city leaders will be for the next two years. And what a couple of years it will be.

Mayor David Landry, the most respected and brightest person to fill that role in many years, will lead a team of individuals with an amazing amount of knowledge, skill and most importantly community spirit.

Newcomers to Council and Novi cheerleaders Kathy Crawford and Dave Staudt, along with the venerable Bob Gatt, have lived and worked in Novi for over 100 combined years. That's right - a century of experience in these three alone. Add that to the experience of the other council members, and we've got an amazing governing body.

These are not micro-managers like we've seen in the past. These are not CAVE (Citizens Against Virtually Everything) people. These are not obstructionists. Folks, these are solid, forward-thinking people who we know will do good things for Novi.

We are amazingly fortunate to have this group being elected to lead our city for the next couple years. We are fortunate to have such qualified people willing to donate their time. We are also very fortunate to have such excellent city administrators too. Yes you, Clay, Frank, Kathy, Randy, David, Maryanne, Benny and the rest of the crew.

Indeed, this old farm town has become a well run, modern suburb and regional destination and that fact is becoming well known not only in Michigan, but across the country too, thanks to the Rock Financial Showplace, Novi's schools, Twelve Oaks and the other malls in town, Providence Hospital, and all the people who have made these things happen.

We the People believe this is the best City Council  in many years, perhaps ever, in Novi. The background, experience, wisdom, knowledge, community spirit and overall demeanor of this group is amazing. This is a great team, and of course that also means we have high expectations for this team for the next couple years too.

We've got some great years ahead of us, folks. Stay-tuned. It's going to be a fun ride!

p.s. - Speaking of great teams and high expectations, congratulations, again, to the Novi Wildcat Girl's Soccer team on their third straight State Championship! This is likely the best girl's soccer team in the entire nation, and we're darn proud so say they are our Wildcats. Well done to the girls, coaches, parents, and everyone else who supported this amazing team.
