The People's Editorials City of Novi
continues 6/1/07 Back in the day, actually less than 10 years ago, Novi had a reputation for being anti-business and closed to just about everything. Folks, times have definitely changed for the better and examples abound. This year, the City of Novi implemented multiple initiatives to ensure a business friendly environment. The new PRIDE program helps expedite permits, several city departments were reorganized into what is now properly called Community Development, and a Business Assistance Tour was started to assist and grow local businesses. Recently, a study was completed by Wayne State University that reviewed governmental compliance with the Michigan's Freedom of Information Act. Random tests showed Novi's Police Department to be one of the most responsive in the region. Novi's finest were in the top 5% of agencies tested by the university. Today, the City of Novi announced yet another addition to our official website - City Council Meeting background materials. This allows citizens to see the same information Council Members see. This, coupled with on-demand web-based City Council Meeting video means virtually everything is available for everyone to scrutinize. We the People are quite pleased with the dramatic changes that have occurred in our city in the past few years. Improved communications, openness, and responsiveness will continue to make Novi and even better place to live and work. Novi has completed a big transition, and it's becoming more and more difficult for obstructionists with special interests to hide the true facts from the People. What was once a farm town is now a major regional destination, and a well managed one at that. Well done folks! Congratulations to Novi High School's Class of 2007. School is officially behind them, and graduation is next weekend. And thanks to our educators for getting Novi High School named in the top high schools in America yet again. Well done to all! The
