Novi Voters Show Continued Confidence
In Our Fine Schools

5/8/07

Although the turnout wasn't great, Novi's voters showed up at the polls Tuesday and by a 60% margin approved a school bond issue that will ensure our kids continue get a first-class education.

Voters also elected newcomer Bobbie Murphy and brought back stalwart George Kortlandt to the school board (Nielson ran unopposed for a partial term).

Murphy will give the board a sound voice of reason - important with the departure of Carol Elfring who has done an excellent job for our schools for several years, but didn't run for reelection this year.

The bond vote should serve as a clear message - to our schools that the voters are pleased with our school administration and the way our schools are being run, and to others in the community (City Council obstructionists, are you listening?) that voters aren't afraid to support continued investment in our fine city, even given the state's economic situation.

Well done, Mr. Dion and crew. You are indeed steering this ship in the right direction.

We the People are pleased the voters made what we believe is the right decision on the school bond issue. To do otherwise would have sent the wrong message about Novi. This continues to be a wonderful city, especially for those with kids in school. Yesterday's vote will ensure that tradition continues.

There are a lot of smart people in this town. Fortunately for our kids, they voted on Tuesday.

p.s. - What in the world did City Council Member Toni Nagy mean when she said she wrote the budget motion that was passed, but then said she couldn't vote for it? Sounds like she can't even agree with herself! At least Mutch's explanation was consistent and made sense - even if we don't agree with him.
