The People's Editorials

Censor
the news?

2/20/2007

From time to time, we receive notes from readers asking why we run certain news stories. Usually, it's a story the writer disagrees with.

That's right, people actually ask us not to link to some information they disagree with. These are the most unusual emails we get.

Why in the world would we not reference a story from such respected organizations as the Detroit News, Detroit Free Press, Oakland Press, or any of the area's other major news outlets? Stories go online whether we agree or not, without an opinion attached.

Our mission is, has been, and will continue to be, to publish and make known all newsworthy information from all available sources. That's why this is a website by the People, for the People.

Much of the information you see on this website comes from other sources. We check all the major news outlets daily to bring you in one place everything about the Novi area. And when the information is coming from another source, that's clearly made known.

We aren't controlled by big corporation money, special interests, or anyone else. This is a simple website built from scratch by your neighbors, and it's going to stay that way. You won't find many other news sources like this, anywhere.

We the People will continue to stand guard by reporting all news that's worthy, unedited and timely. Did we miss a story? That doesn't happen often, but if it does let us know. After all, we aren't claiming perfection here - but we do try hard.

If you want to know what our opinion is after we've gone through every available news source and talked to many folks in town - smart folks at that, then read this page. If you don't agree with us, you can always skip this page. But better yet, write in and let us know.

We'll always print your opinion as long as it's truthful - regardless of what position you take on an issue, and of course as long as it's not slanderous.

Rest assured we won't let those in town who only want you to see one side of a story control what you know.

Those days are long behind us, friends.

p.s. - Kudos to Novi's DPW crew for their excellent work keeping Novi's roads open after the past week's weather. And coming from someone who lived in the U.P. for several years, it's clear they do a great job in Novi!

p.p.s - In case you're curious, in response to our 2/8/07 editorial on alternatives to the police firing range, only Andrew Mutch was kind enough to respond. Sadly, even he didn't provide a line by line detail on how the money should be spent. So we still don't know what the alternative really is...
