Cedar
Point
It's worth the drive!
A
two hour drive from Novi down to Sandusky, Ohio to visit the largest
- and voted best amusement park in the nation 7 years in a row - is
worth it! Open from May 7th through October 31, Cedar Point is
always a great get away and has so much to offer. Whether the trip
is planned with family or friends, no one could leave saying they
had a bad time. I made the trip last weekend, and it was worth it!
With 364 acres of
land to run around all day long it’s not that hard to fall asleep
after leaving. Every year more than three million people visit this
amusement park, but the fact of the matter is that all this
summertime fun and excitement didn’t appear over night.
In
1870, Louis Zistel, a Sandusky entrepreneur, started bring people
across Sandusky Bay to Cedar Point. The white sand beach is what
first drew visitors to this beautiful vacation spot. More and more
people started finding out about Cedar Point and would come here to
hang out on the beach, picnic, and listen to music played by local
brass bands.
In
1888 the Grand Pavilion was added so that tourists could get a bite
to eat instead of having to bring their own food. In 1910 the
first roller coaster was built and given the name, “The Racer.”
Though the ride wasn’t very tall and didn’t go very fast it was the
first roller coaster had and became the first well known roller
coaster. From then on Cedar Point has made many thrilling and
exhilarating changes which has helped attract tourists from all over
the world.
Dropping
down from 310 feet in the air at an 80 degree angle, flying at
speeds over 90 mph sounds fun to some and insane to others. The
Millennium Force, which was added to the park in the summer of 2000,
is the second tallest and fastest ride in the park attracting many.
The Millennium, being just one of 60 plus rides in the park set and
broke an astonishing 10 different records when it entered the park
becoming Cedar Point’s 14th roller coaster at the time
which is also more than any other park in the world has.
Cedar
Point offers many events throughout the season. One being
Halloweekends, which start the last two weekends of September and go
until the final weekend and date the park is open which is Halloween
weekend.
